Systrom, Linda

Linda D. Systrom died after a brief, sudden illness. Her husband of 41 years, Ernie, and her sister in law Sue Weikel were by her side when she passed. Linda Jan (Dixon) Systrom was born on June 5, 1951 to Jane Hills Dixon and Henry Malcolm Dixon in Sharon, Massachusetts.

Linda received the bulk of her formal education in the Westwood school system in Westwood, MA. She furthered her education (1 year) at Framingham State University (Framingham, MA) and finished her college education at Boston University in Boston, MA. Linda attended Riverchase United Methodist Church.

Linda Jan Dixon went to grade school with Ernest W. Systrom. At their 10th year high school reunion they met once again. In spite of living 650 miles apart, Linda and Ernie started dating after that. After more than a year of being pursued, Linda took pity on Ernie and agreed to marry him. On July 18, 1981 Linda and Ernie were married at St. Anne’s Church in Kennebunkport, Maine. When Linda was single, she worked at a number of places including 8 years at Harvard University, spending the bulk of her time as a Research Associate in the Development Department. After getting married, she moved to Pittsburgh,PA. She worked for a couple of years as a financial aid officer at La Roche University outside of Pittsburgh, PA. In 1994 Linda and her husband moved to Alabama. Linda enjoyed travelling, gardening, and cooking throughout her life. She and her husband travelled extensively to Europe, South America, Asia, and in North America. She always had a love of plants and flowers. After taking a formal course, in 1998 she became an Alabama Master Gardener. She did a great deal of volunteer work for that organization, racking up something like 7000 volunteer hours. Acting as Chairman of the Membership committee she became friendly with many AMGA members. She also did a lot of volunteer work for Aldridge Gardens in Hoover, AL. Linda also loved looking up recipes and trying them. At many AMGA functions she provided treats and snack

Linda is survived by her husband, Ernie, and her brother, Glenn.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service for Linda on Sunday, August 70, 2023 at Noon, at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood, MA 02090.

Johnson, Edmund “Len”

Edmund Leonard “Len” Johnson, Jr. a resident of Nashua, NH, and a former resident of Norwood, passed away at his home on August 16, 2023. He was 86 years old.

Len had a love for MG cars, and has owned and collected many of them in his lifetime. He was a long time active member of the New England MG “T” Register, and had served as the Awards Chairman and on the Board of Directors throughout the years. He had also earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Indiana Institute of Technology, and was a veteran of the US Navy.

Len was the husband of the late Wendy Johnson, and was the brother of the late Lawrence Johnson and Richard Johnson. He is survived by his loving sister, Elsa M. Johnson, of Mansfield, and his 5 beloved nieces and nephews; Mark Johnson, Nicole Gonsalves, Kim Piecewicz, Keith Johnson, and Craig Johnson. A special ‘thank you’ to Len’s caregiver, Rachel DiMartino, for her years of loyalty and friendship.   

Visitation for Len will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 5-8PM at the Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St, Norwood. Bjornson, Eleanor

May 26, 1931 – August 15, 2023

Eleanor A. (Arvidson) Bjornson, a longtime resident of West Roxbury, passed away on August 15, 2023.  She was 92 years old. Eleanor was born in Lynn, MA, on May 26, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Einar and Ella (Olson) Arvidson, and was the sister of the late Alice A. Mitchell. She was the loving wife of the late George T. Bjornson, who passed away in 2008, and the mother of David G. Bjornson and his wife Patricia, of Walpole, Ma.  She is also survived by her two beloved grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexander Bjornson, and her nieces Lynne Sugar of Pepperel, Ma, Laurie Brockelman of Fitzwilliam, NH, and Jane Ash of Gloucester, Ma.

Visitation for Eleanor will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 4-7 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick St, Norwood MA 02062 at 10AM. Mutz, Charles K

Charles Kiedle Mutz, a longtime resident of Dedham, died Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 at his home in Dedham. He was 92. Charlie was born March 17, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Carl Walter and Martha (Kiedle) Mutz. He graduated from Boston Trade High School and earned his associate degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. In 1952 he was inducted into the US Army in 1952 and served for two years, being honorably discharged in 1954 from the 65th Engineering battalion as a sergeant. Charles is survived by his wife, Annette Theresa (O’Connell): his daughter, Charlette L. Haschig, and her husband Gregory, of Ashburnham; his son, William M. Mutz, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and his late wife Debbie; his five grandchildren, Brett Haschig, and his wife Charis, Drew W. Haschig, and Sabrina, Lily M. Haschig, Dalton Mutz, and BreAna Mutz; and his two great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Luukka Haschig. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Schallenmuller. Charles was a machinist and the co-owner and vice president of Wemco, Inc of Dedham for 45 years until his retirement in 2006. He was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, and a member of the Boyleston Schul Verein. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his best friend, Bill Wentzell. Visiting hours will be held Friday, August 25th from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Saturday, August 26th at 10 am at St, Luke Lutheran Church in Dedham followed by interment at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston. Rubenis, Arvid G. “Mike”

Arvid Gunar “Mike” Rubenis, a Boston resident, died Tuesday, August 8th, 2023 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital peacefully after a long struggle with kidney and heart disease. He was 83. Mike was born December 3, 1939 in Riga, Latvia, a son of Arvid Edmunds and Jadviga (Grebezs) Rubenis. He immigrated to the United States by way of Sweden as a teenager and has been a Boston resident ever since. Mike was a US Army veteran who served in Hanau, Germany from 1961 to 1964 where he met and married his wife Lieselotte Huss who predeceased him in 1978. He worked as a production manager for the First Electronics Corporation of Dorchester for over 50 years until his retirement in 2017. Mike is survived by his daughter, Mona Inocentes, and her husband Bismarck, of West Roxbury; his son, Rudy Rubenis, and his wife Mary, of Winchester; his brother Karl Rubenis of Springfield; and his grandchildren, Chloe Rubenis, Nicholas Inocentes, and his wife Caitlin, and their children, Aubrey and Nora, and Miranda Inocentes, and her fiance Jason Danis. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff of 4 West and 4 Usen at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for their kindness and compassion during Arvid’s multiple hospital admissions. A special note of gratitude to the NWH Palliative Care Service for ensuring his passing was peaceful and painless. Additionally, the family would like to thank the staff at American Renal Associates in Wellesley and Ludlow for their excellent care. Services and interment were held privately at the family’s request. Berube, Carolyn M.

Carolyn Mae (Adjutant) Berube, a longtime resident of Dedham, died Friday, August 4th, 2023 at her home in Dedham. She was 81. Carolyn was born May 20, 1942 in Biddeford, Maine, one of the six children of Norman Leroy and Ione Ruby (Campbell) Adjutant. She graduated from Biddeford High School and worked at various times for CVS, Star Market, and for many years as a waitress at Woolworth’s in Dedham. Carolyn enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was the wife of the late Joseph Edward Berube and is survived by her two sons, Glenn Berube, and his wife Joann, of Weymouth, and Gregg Berube of Dedham; her daughter, Lynn White, and her husband Edward, of Norwood; her siblings, David Adjutant, and his wife Barbara, Diane Labbe, Gail Yankura, Jean Marcotte, and Jackie Adjutant, all of Maine; her seven grandchildren, Kelly, Stephen, Nichole, Courtney, Jessica, Vanessa, and Lyndon; and her four great-grandchildren, Makayla, Aiden, Kennedy, and Charlotte. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15th from 11 am to noon at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by the funeral service at the funeral home at noon. Nasman, Ruth M.

Ruth May (Swensen) Nasman, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Saturday, August 5th, 2023 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was 70. Ruth was born March 6, 1953 in Revere, Massachusetts, one of the seven children of Walter Ferdinand and Nathalie Louise (Tobey) Swenson. Ruth earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and worked at the Visiting Nurses Association, as a school nurse for the Town of Westwood, at Norwood Hospital, and served as the Director of Adult Day Care at the Deutsches Altenheim in West Roxbury for 15 years. She is survived by her beloved husband, Glenn Douglas Nasman; her two daughters, Rebecca Tibbetts, and her husband Michael, of Fort Meyers, Florida, and Valerie Haueisen, and her husband David, of Columbus, Ohio; her two sons, James Nasman, and his partner Stephen Gine, of Oakland, California, and Daniel Nasman of Medfield; her two brothers, David Swensen and Jonathan Swensen; her two sisters, Margie Swensen and Mary Larson; and her five grandchildren, Caoline and Lydia Tibbetts, and Jonathan, Nathalie, and Anna Haueisen. Ruth was the sister of the late Daniel and Stephen Swensen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Saturday, August 12th at 11:30 am at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood Road, Norfolk. Fallavollita, Carmela

October 2, 1930 – August 6, 2023

Carmela M. (Rubino) Fallavollita, a lifelong resident of Readville, passed away on Aug. 6, 2023. She was 92 years old. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Mary (Bruno) Rubino, loving wife of the late John A. Fallavollita, who proudly served in the Navy during WWII, and the dear sister of the late Liberato Rubino.  She is survived by her many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.  

Carmela was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and worked as a seamstress in the China Town garment district for many years until her retirement in 1992. She was the family’s go-to person for sewing projects large or small. She loved to crochet and made countless afghan blankets to give as gifts to family and friends. Carmela loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, dancing on Saturday nights and sitting in the sun on the beach. Her calm, quiet manner and her great love for family and friends will be deeply missed by all. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all the AccentCare Hospice staff who compassionately cared for Carmela the past two years, and especially during her final days. We will be forever grateful. 

Visitation for Carmela will be held on Friday August 11, 2023, from 11AM to noon, at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St, Dedham, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at noon. Interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Riemer, Karl D.

Karl Davis Riemer, a resident of Jamaica Plain, died Friday, August 4, 2023 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was 73. Karl was born June 6, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the four children of Dr. Karl and Louise (Crowninshield) Riemer. He was a graduate of the Dexter School in Brookline, the Middlesex School in Concord , and attended Boston University and Emerson College, both in Boston. His career choices reflected his various passions, including the design and installation of high-end sound systems, and logging hundreds of weekly miles as a bicycle courier. Karl was a voracious reader who didn’t hesitate to share his strong opinions on local, national, and international politics while simultaneously mastering the art of computer golf and other digital competitions. In spite of a 26 year battle with cancer, Karl Davis never lost his zeal and appreciation for the gift of life. He will be deeply missed for his insights, musical knowledge, advice on motorcycle trips, humor, generosity, and magnetic personality. Karl was the son of the late Dr. Karl Riemer and the brother of the late Henry F. Riemer. He is survived by his mother, Louise C. Riemer of Chestnut Hill; his two sisters, Louise C. Riemer of West Roxbury, and Elizabeth R. Reece of Needham; his nephew, Schuyler S. Reece of Boston; a niece, Lily C. Loeb of Oyster Bay, New York; as well as a long list of dear friends, and loyal caregivers. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Uhl, Helen M. Grow

Helen Matilda (Armstrong) Grow Uhl, a lifelong resident of Norwood, died Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. She was 98. Helen was born December 28, 1924 in Norwood, Massachusetts the daughter of Fred and Karin (Wickman) Armstrong, immigrant from Sweden. She graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1942. Helen worked as an accountant for several banks an auto dealerships. She was an owner and dispatcher of Norwood Taxi. Helen was a member of the United Church of Norwood and was active at the Norwood Senior Center. She loved dancing and was an avid knitter and member of the Norwood Knitting Club. Helen is survived by her three sons; Norman E. Grow, and his wife Bonnie Jo, of Attleboro, David G. Grow, and his wife Mary, of Attleboro, and Jeffrey A. Grow of Norwood; her three grandchildren, Krystal Santoro, Traci Grow, and Meghan Grow; and her great granddaughter, Ella Santoro. She was the mother of the late Robert M. Grow and the sister of the late Norman Armstrong. Services and interment in Highland Cemetery in Norwood were private.
